Up to 10 Rotorua police and volunteers are expected to head to Opotiki today to help search for an elderly Opotiki man who has been missing in bush since Sunday.
Police and New Zealand Search and Rescue launched a search yesterday for 74-year-old Sydney Koroua, who did not return after going into the bush in the Waioeka Gorge on Sunday.
Mr Koroua had gone into the bush at the Amoamo Bridge on State Highway 2 at 8am on Sunday.
He was expected to be out a couple of hours later but failed to return.
Mr Koroua was wearing a grey top with a white singlet, and black track pants with white stripes down the legs.
He has a medical condition and may be disoriented.
Detective Sergeant John Wilson of the Rotorua police said about 10 people, including police and volunteers, were expected to head to the township this morning to help with the search.
Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Koroua walking on SH2 from Sunday mid-morning onwards.
Contact Opotiki police, phone (07) 315 1110.
