Rotorua Girls' High School has announced students will be performing the incredibly popular Broadway musical Hairspray in 2017.
Teacher and Hairspray director Bridget Donovan said up to 100 students from Rotorua Girls' High School and Rotorua Boys' High School will be involved in the musical either on stage or behind the scenes.
The musical will run from June 23 to July 1 and will be performed in the school's Performing Arts Centre.
Asked why the school chose Hairspray, Miss Donovan said students had been asking to do the production for some time.
"The students at the school have been asking for it for years. Lots of people already know and love the storyline and the songs. This is an opportunity to showcase our great dancing and vocal talents. Hairspray, which is set in Baltimore in the early 1960s is about teenagers and romance. It's also a story about America's continuing struggles with racial injustice and how the courage of teenagers can bring real change.
