Other live performers will play on stage throughout the day and roving acrobats will move around the crowds.
Activities include kite making and flying, games, the Scream Giant inflatable slide, bouncy roulette wheel, the Rotorua Museum Matariki Activity Trail and exploring the redeveloped te reo playground.
Rotorua Lakes Council arts and culture, manager markets, festivals and projects Brigitte Nelson said it would be a great day out for families.
She said Matariki was a time to gather with family and friends to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.
The Rotorua Model Railway Club is holding open days for the public tomorrowand Sunday.
The open days run from 10am to 4pm at the Pererika St clubrooms.
Layouts that will be on show include large American railways, Thomas the Tank Engine and friends, vintage British Hornby Dublo from the 1950s, and logging and bush railways.
Club member Barry Jenkins said it was a good get-together for club members, and a great, reasonably priced day out for families.
He said the Thomas the Tank Engine layout was a big hit with the children.
Entry is $5 for families, $3 for adults and $1 for children.
The Rotorua Cat Show, hosted by the Geyserland Cat Club, is being held on Sunday, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, at the Rotorua Racecourse.
Entries closed earlier this month and there are 135 cats entered in this year's show.
This is made up of 78 pedigree longhairs, 38 pedigree shorthairs, six domestics and 13 companion cats.
Entry into the show is $5 for adults, $3 for children 5 to 11, and free for under 5s.
Families can also be wowed by the skills and strength of those in the Cirque Grande circus.
Acts people can marvel at include a bicycle display, a group of African acrobats, teeterboard, hoop diving and human pyramids.
