A school boy has been hit by a car on Malfroy Rd.

Police were called to the incident about 8.40am on Malfroy Rd near James St, a police spokeswoman said.

A St John spokesman said one person was taken to Rotorua Hospital with minor injuries.

A witness to the incident told the Rotorua Daily Post two secondary school-aged boys were running across the road when one was hit by a car.

"The car braked at the last minute but went boom, straight into the kid. He jumped up straight away but you could tell he was shaken."

"It's a lesson to be careful when crossing the road, especially Malfroy Rd because it's so busy. Kids need to be wary," the witness said.
