The Ruatoki community will host a SPCA day to raise awareness on the care and protection of animals.
It will also provide options to common animal welfare problems animal lovers and pet owners encounter
Whanau in Ruatoki are encouraged to bring their sick animals to Tuhoe Park this Sunday at 9am.
"We want to change people's perspectives of the SPCA, we are about education and care of animals, not always about prosecuting people," said SPCA Inspector Liisa Jones.
A free basic health check for animals will include flea and worm treatment. You can also register to have your animals desexed or gelded. Horse farriers will be available to advise on hoof and dental care and free drenching will also be available. The day is expected to be fun for the whanau with entertainment and competitions for the kids.
Food and refreshments are also available.
