Buying second-hand clothing is not for the faint-hearted.
Some people buy second-hand for the price, but others scour shops and hunt through endless clothing racks and bargain bins to find that one special item nobody else has.
Bernard from Swit-sh Clothing Store said shopping for second-hand clothing was not just about cheap clothes but about being unique and showing personality.
"It is about portraying individuality and not looking like a soldier by wearing what everyone else wears," he said.
"It is also important that people make the most of things that have been produced already. It is good for the environment."
Bernard said the standard of clothing produced today was often not as high as in the past, so shoppers should not always expect second-hand to be cheap.
Rotorua's Hone Murray likes to find items that make him stand out from the crowd.
"I like a vintage style so I generally go for jackets that are rare and something that not everybody has," he said.
"I'm a bargain hunter, but I have a dress sense of my own so I find something with the potential to stand out in the crowd.
"The old things have quality. Second-hand is not always cheap, quality is important."
Wiri Adams, who works at Seekers Megamart, is also a dedicated second-hand shopper and enjoys finding clothing that's different from what fashion stores stock.
"Sometimes you find some really cool stuff that you can't find in the shops. It is just a matter of browsing," she said.
She liked the variety offered in second-hand shops and being able to find a bargain, she said.
Ngahina Tarei, from Seekers Megamart, said her favourite thing about second-hand clothing was the price and the variety.
"You can get all sorts of clothes in all sizes, party clothes, 70s style, work clothes and uniforms. You never know what you can find," she said.
