Rotorua has had fewer fatal crashes than other parts of the Bay of Plenty this year, according to the police district's road policing manager.
Inspector Kevin Taylor said Rotorua had been reasonably quiet and he hoped it stayed that way over Queen's Birthday weekend.
"In terms of outcomes, serious crashes and fatalities, Rotorua is trending fairly well this calendar year. Compared to the Western Bay of Plenty, it's fared very well. Having said that, there's no room for complacency," said Mr Taylor.
According to Ministry of Transport figures, one road fatality has occurred in Rotorua this year. Last year, Rotorua had six fatalities and there were seven in 2013.
However, this year's fatality numbers were up significantly in the Bay of Plenty police district which includes South Waikato, Taupo and Rotorua.
