A Rotorua teenager has been praised after he recovered a fellow student's bike by cycling after the thief and simply asking him to give it back.
Regan Creighton, a student at John Paul College, noticed a young man taking a bike from the school as he was leaving for an orthodontist appointment yesterday.Regan was getting his own bike when he saw the stranger loitering near the college's bicycle bay.
"I thought he was crying at first so I left him," Regan said.
"As I was leaving school, I clicked that might be a person trying to steal a bike."
The 16-year-old then waited just outside school and saw the person who he described as a "kid" about his own age, riding away on a student's bike.
