A man and woman have appeared in the Rotorua District Court facing joint charges of neglecting children by failing to clean up dog faeces.

The man and woman can't be named for legal reasons.

The pair have pleaded not guilty to four joint charges of neglecting children under the age of 18.

The charge reads the omission of failing to clean up dog faeces was likely to cause adverse effects to health, namely sickness, and was a major departure from the standard of care to be expected of a reasonable person.

Judge Tony Snell remanded the pair on bail to reappear in court for a case review hearing on April 5.
