To celebrate the festive season and spread some Christmas cheer Rotorua Museum is hosting a Festive Family Fun Day.

It is being held on Saturday December 9 from 10am to 2pm at the Children's Art House.

Tori Williams, the museum's engagement and event co-ordinator, says as well as the fun festive crafts children will be able to colour a Christmas card to give to someone special.

"It will be a fun day of free activities and entertainment.

"At this time of year it is nice to have something to do with the family that won't cost anything."

She says Rotorua Museum is excited to bring out Playspace – giant foam building blocks – for creative builders to enjoy.

"Also, the face painters are always a hit at museum family events so they will be there spreading some festive cheer."

It is lucky to have members of local choir Te Ao Marama perform Christmas classics, and Rotorua ukulele band The Thermaleles will get toes tapping with festive favourites, she says.

The day is free, but people can bring along a gift or gold coin to donate to the Rotorua Museum Community Christmas Tree.

Tori says for the last six years the museum has supported Waiariki Womens Refuge by hosting the tree.

This year it will be at Rotorua Library with people encouraged to bring in presents for mums and children.

Donated gifts will be delivered to Waiariki Women's Refuge just in time for Christmas.
