A Rotorua man who has helped change the lives of hundreds of local people is one of 10 grass roots volunteers in the running for a top spot in Lotto NZ and Sport NZ's 'Thank A Sport Maker' programme.
David Massey is the founder of the Rotorua Group Challenge Bootcamp and volunteers his time twice a week and on weekends to put 360 people through their paces. There are three different categories for males and females, with an entry fee of just $20 for 12 weeks.
He weighs, measures and pinch tests all participants and at end of a 12-week challenge the winner takes the share of proceeds.
Three times a year, 10 grassroots volunteers win $2000 worth of sports gear. One of these winners will also take home a tailored experience for them and their team.
Mr Massey and his fellow finalists will now compete in an online voting competition to decide who the winner of the team prize will be. Voting closes this Friday, June 23.
