The Mokoia Community Association's Whatu-ira lead Mary Nicholas says the event caters for all ages and is a lot of fun for all the whānau.
"Our events not only allow us to bring our Eastside communities together but also provide an opportunity to work alongside our local school-aged youth, to enhance their skills, learning and knowledge base around organising and managing a community event.
"We believe that by building local leaders among our youth the Eastside will thrive and be known for its sense of community."
Ralph Mosen, programme director for Horizon Consultancy Ltd, has worked with students from Rotokawa, Owhata and Mokoia Intermediate schools building trolleys for the event.
The trolleys will be available if people do not have their own, but people still need to register.
A highlight for Mokoia Intermediate pupils taking part in the trolley building included test driving the carts and learning what it takes to host a community event.
Nicholas says there will be prizes, and safety gear will be available.
"It's bringing the community together and having a fun day, whether you're participating or supporting."
Registration forms are available from all Eastside schools and the Mokoia Community Association, or online at www.insideastside.org.nz.
Registrations close at 5pm on Wednesday, October 31.
Nicholas says it is hoped the Eastside Trolley Derby will become an annual event and increase in numbers each year.
