A Rotorua couple can barely believe their normal Saturday errands led to a Lotto First Division win.

The pair, who wanted to remain anonymous, picked up a ticket at the Reporoa Food Market when they were passing through last weekend.

"We have been buying tickets for a few years now. We try and remember to pick up a ticket every Saturday," they said.

The morning after the draw, they saw a Facebook post about a winning First Division ticket sold in Reporoa.

"We asked ourselves if we could be one of the lucky winners you read about ... You never know, right?"

They checked their ticket, did a "double take" and sure enough, the winning numbers lined up in a row.

"I looked at my husband and said 'we've won'! We sat there saying it to each other over and over again – we were absolutely stunned."

They said they were "blown away" by their first big win.

"We can barely believe it." they said.

Their ticket was one of six around the country that shared Saturday's $1 million Lotto jackpot.

The couple have kept the news to themselves.

"We haven't even told our kids yet – we want to think of a fun way to share the big news with them. Half the fun is coming up with ways to surprise them."

The couple said the win was only starting to sink now that the prize money was in their bank account.

"There are so many things we will be able to do now that we've won Lotto, but we'll continue to carry on as normal for now – the winning feeling hasn't yet settled in!

"We are going to take some time to enjoy the moment before we make any big decisions ... We are thinking we may treat ourselves to a trip overseas – and we'll fly business! It is something we have always wanted to do."

The couple said they would continue to buy Lotto tickets.

"It is our weekly tradition."
