"A Very Merry Rotorua Christmas" is this year's theme.
Many of the things people saw at Christmas were based on things such as winter and snowflakes, while really the Kiwi and Rotorua Christmas was different, with trees, lakes and barbecues, she said.
She said she had feedback from previous floats that the parade was a great opportunity to show the community who they were.
"A lot of groups are doing it as a team building exercise, to build a float, get creative, have fun and have a great time together on the day."
She said the festival after the parade would include a family Christmas movie on the big screen and rides. The movie has not been decided yet.
There will be a mix of interactive entertainment, activities for the children, food vendors, and a prize giving for winning floats on the Village Green.
She said groups were invited to set up stalls if they had fun, free things for young families to do.
"I think it's just a really nice, free, easy way to celebrate Christmas with family.
"There is no cost pressure or big family feasts, it's just about fun, watching the floats and chilling watching a family movie."
