Rotorua artist Jacob Chrisohoou has taken out the Rotorua Museum Art Awards More FM People's Choice Award.

His piece titled Fallen Angels 1 gained more than 10,000 votes cast via the museum's Facebook page and in the gallery.

Mr Chrisohoou's work, which won him $1000, was the clear combined winner but given the overwhelming number of votes cast, museum director Stewart Brown decided to award an additional $1000 award for the most gallery votes.

That went to Rotorua's Claire Worrall for her work titled Ancient History Lessons.

"Almost half the total vote count was made by people coming into the museum to actually view the works," said Mr Brown.

"When you're in front of the works you can get a true sense of the skill and creativity that goes into it and we wanted to recognise that."

The Rotorua Museum Art Awards Exhibition closed on Sunday but all works are still on Rotorua Museum's Facebook page.
