A woman has been airlifted out of Ruatahuna after suffering a serious medical event.
The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter battled bad weather and strong winds to make it to the remote Te Urewera township at 11am.
A 60 year-old local woman was stabilised upon arrival by a paramdic then transferred to Waikato Hospital after her condition deteriorated on route to Rotorua.
She remains in a serious condition.
