Three Reporoa farmers are trading their gumboots for boxing gloves to fight for charity this weekend.
The WAI/BoP Fight Night For Charity is being held at the Don Rowlands Centre at the Mighty River Domain in Cambridge on Saturday from 5.30pm to 11.30pm.
This will be the fourth fight night organised by the WAI/BoP Young Farmers since 2012 and all funds raised will go to the Rural Support Trust.
The Rural Support Trust helps people and families in the wider rural community who experience an adverse event - climatic, financial or personal - to more effectively meet and overcome these challenges.
Renee Tremain, Lucy Little and Nathaniel Hawthorne are all committee members of the Reporoa Young Farmers club.
Mrs Tremain said the three of them put their names down three months ago because they thought it was a good cause.
She said they went down to Rotovegas Boxing gym to find a coach and came across Kaine Warren.
"It's been good, Kaine has pushed us hard, but we have got good results. We couldn't even skip for a minute without stopping when we first started, now it's easy.
"The competition look like they are training hard and I hope it's a good fight. I want to get in there and go a good three rounds," Mrs Tremain said.
Lucy Little said the training had been hard.
"I wasn't totally unfit to start with, but it has been harder than I ever imagined and I've enjoyed it so much more than I ever thought I would. I'd never boxed or picked up a pair of gloves before and I've really got into it.
"Kaine has been good at training us, he is very hard on us. It's all going to the Rural Support Trust, which is a really good charity that helps people that maybe going through difficulties."
Kaine Warren said coaching the young farmers had been interesting.
"They just showed up at the gym one day and asked. The ladies are going hard, and showing they want to win.
"It's been good to take them on and show them what I know about boxing and how to become a champion. We have had some New Zealand champs spar with them such as Summer Lake which has been great practice.
"They have said they want to keep going after the event so that's great. It's been a lifestyle change for them, they have trained three times a week for the last three months."
