This Sunday is International Children's Day and it is being celebrated at the Redwoods with a day of family activities.

Rotorua Lakes Council wanted to extend the celebration however, and has organised another action packed day tomorrow for the kids.

"The theme for International Children's Day is 'Treasure our Children', we have picked up on this theme and co-ordinated a day for our children and families to get them out and about. It's a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the wonderful little people in our lives who make it so special," said Jo Doherty, communications lead for the Rotorua Museum.

The council, Rotorua Arts Village, and The Children's Art House have joined forces for Saturday and have produced a treasure map from Government Gardens to Kuirau Park where kids can explore and enjoy a wide range of activities including crafts, music, games, story-time, puppets, face-painting and swimming.

Children can start at any point on the map and complete activities at each location to receive treasure stamps on your map between 10am until 3pm. Collect five treasure stamps to go in the draw to win prizes, including Redwood Tree Walk passes, and Lone Star vouchers.

Search the Green Corridor and follow the Treasure Map to search for the pirate on a bike. He will be giving out spot prizes throughout the day for fancy dress and decorated bikes.

Treasure maps from the library, museum, council building, aquatic centre and the Arts Village.

The fun continues on Sunday from 1.30pm-4.30pm when International Children's Day is celebrated at the Redwoods. It will feature free creative activities for toddlers, under 10s, including art, music, stories and bush adventures.
