A shallow, 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck near White Island on Friday afternoon.
The tremor hit at 3:25pm at a depth of 5km, GeoNet said.
It was centred 10km south-east of White Island, and had a Mercalli Intensity (strength felt on the earth's surface) of 5.
