Pupil discovers what it takes to be Rotorua's mayor

A Western Heights Primary School student with her eyes set on becoming mayor one day has been given a special opportunity she couldn't turn down.

Trinity Munro, 10, met mayor Steve Chadwick recently to learn about what was involved in being a city mayor.

The trip was organised by the school's social worker, Eddy Hodge.

He said Trinity had been asking questions and showing interest in what it would take to become mayor.

"Trinity was really keen on the idea of some day becoming mayor so I thought I'd send away an email to the mayor to see if we could set something up.

"She replied saying Trinity could come down for a tour and a bit of a chat - she showed Trinity a really good time."

Trinity said she loved everything about meeting Mrs Chadwick.

"It was amazing being shown around and getting to ask the mayor lots of questions.

"I asked her how a person becomes a mayor and how hard it is to become a mayor. I also asked what life was like being the mayor."

Trinity said if she ever found herself in the position, the first thing she would do would be tell the public about all the changes she would make.

Mrs Chadwick said she enjoyed meeting Trinity who had some innovative ideas and asked some probing questions.

She said finding out what young people thought was a big part of consultation with the community.
