Rotorua primary school kapa haka teams are showing the rest of the country what they're made of at this week's national competition in Palmerston North.
Four Rotorua teams have been selected to represent Te Arawa at Te Mana Kuratahi 2015.
The primary schools national kapa haka competition started on Monday at Arena Manawatu with 47 schools from around the country taking part. The results will be announced tomorrow at 4.15pm.
This year's competition is the largest in the event's history. The last nationals were held in Tauranga in 2013. Every alternate year, regional competitions are held to select the groups to represent the different rohe (area). The current champions are Te Wharekura o Rakaumangamanga from Huntly. Te Arawa's teams were selected from the Te Arawa Primary Schools regional kapa haka competition in November last year. Two of the teams performed yesterday.
They were Te Kura Takawaenga o te Rotorua nui a Kahumatamomoe (Rotorua Intermediate) and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Hurungaterangi. Performing today are Te Wharekura o Ngati Rongomai and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Ruamata.
