Popular actor and director loses battle with cancer

LIFE'S A STAGE: Rotorua-based actor and director Robert Young died on the weekend after losing his battle with cancer.

The curtain has come down on the remarkable career of Rotorua-based actor and director Robert Young.

Mr Young died at 10pm on Sunday night at his home in Rotorua, surrounded by family and friends, after losing his battle with prostate cancer. He was 70 years old.

Mr Young moved to Rotorua in March 2010 from the Gold Coast where he had lived for 20
years.

He was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few months after making the city his home.

His involvement in the Rotorua musical theatre scene goes back more than 40 years and he was well known for producing high quality shows.

In more recent years he was involved with large-scale school productions and as a mentor for young actors.
