The official holiday period on the roads may be over but motorists are being urged to be aware roadworks season is now in full swing.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said Rotorua motorists were advised to allow extra time when travelling as contractors were carrying out roadworks on a number of state highway sites.
Stop/go traffic management, changes to the road layout and speed restrictions will be in place at sites on State Highway 5 near Springfield, State Highway 36 near the Mangapouri Bridge, State Highway 30 between Whakamaru and Rotorua and State Highway 33 at Sun Valley Curves.
Senior Sergeant Nicky Riordan of the Rotorua police Strategic Traffic Unit said motorists needed to watch out for roadwork signs.
"Temporary speed limits are being put in place to ensure the safety of drivers at a time when the road seal isn't at a safe level or while workers are doing road maintenance. Motorists need to take heed. These speed reductions are put in place for your safety."
