Community patrol groups from Western Heights and Ngongotaha have been so useful police are hoping to roll out city-wide patrol groups.
Constable Peter Rameka is looking for volunteers to join the community patrol, so the whole Rotorua region can be covered.
"The more the merrier. We take them out and give them a bit of an introduction course. Some of them do work full-time as well, and they have a passion for the community, and donate two or three hours of their time on a Friday night."
He said volunteers must be over 18 and have no criminal history.
"They are the eyes and ears only for the police, they don't have any direct contact with whatever they are reporting to the police. They have access to police radio and communications. They have patrol vehicles and they can call in through North Communications.
