It's understood the young man died at the scene. Photo/File.

The man who died when his motorbike went under a truck in in Rotorua over Easter has been named as 19-year-old local man Hona Robinson.

The crash happened at the intersection of Edmund and Clayton Rds about 11.20am on Saturday, March 31.

Shortly after the accident, witness Aaron Clair told how he was driving behind the truck when the crash happened.

He said he saw the motorbike approach the intersection of Edmund and Clayton Rds and lose control, sliding under the truck's back wheels.

Clair said witnessing the crash was "horrific".

"I hopped out of my car and called 111 and started slowing down traffic. People came running out of the homes to try help the young man on the bike, giving him chest compressions," Clair said.

"There were a lot of people yelling to 'help him, help him,' but there wasn't much that could be done."

The Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
