The concept of cultivating a garden of produce and then enjoying the harvest is now a reality for children in Western Heights.
This week, Western Heights Primary School had a greenhouse assembled on its property, the first stage of its community garden.
It's the third such garden the Western Heights Neighbourhood Police Team has been involved with. Other gardens are at Kea St School and on Brookland Rd.
It means pupils can learn how seeds become seedlings and then produce. They will grow the seedlings in the winter in the greenhouse and then transfer them to the garden in spring.
The project also involves the Western Heights Community Association, Bunnings Rotorua and the Rotorua Lakes Council Community Matching Fund.
