Police Notebook: Males causing disorder on Eastside

Disorderly behaviour is the subject of complaints in the eastern suburbs.

The following incidents were reported to Rotorua police during the past few days:

Rotorua police have been dealing with males causing trouble in the eastern suburbs of the city.

Area prevention manager Inspector Stuart Nightingale said some of the males had been "actively causing disorder".

They have been seen drinking at the roadside and accosting members of the public in areas such as Bronte Pl, Owhata and the Te Ngae Shopping Centre.

Nightingale said some were participating in criminal activity, including assaulting people.

"As a result our people have been mobilised and directed to take a deliberate enforcement approach with this group of offenders. The public don't like it and we don't like it."

He said if anyone had any concerns about people intimidating members of the public they should call 111.

"It is my expectation that the public will tell us what's happening. They do not need to put up with this immature, anti-social and criminal behaviour."

Stolen cars

On Sunday a vehicle was stolen from Ngongotaha.

The black 2003 Black Holden SS Commodore, registration DRJ32, was taken from Okona Cr.

Burglaries of note

During the day on Friday a property at Cherrywood Pl, Western Heights, was the subject of a burglary.

A PlayStation 4 Console and hand controller was taken.

Nightingale said it was likely this would be offered for sale.

"Police are keen to hear from anyone who is being offered a similar item in suspicious circumstances."

Earlier last week a Tawera Rd address was the subject of burglary.

Property taken included an iPhone 6 plus, a Toshiba Satellite laptop, a 24" LCD monitor, a Husqvarna 460 chainsaw, a Hitachi DV18DSDL portable drill set, a Paslode B20543P framing nailer, a Bosch PMD10 stud finder and a Bosch 50M 603672200 laser range finder.

Nightingale encourages anyone who sees these items in circumstances that seem suspicious to contact the police.
