There will be an increased police presence in the Rotorua CBD this weekend after an increase in disorderly offences last Friday and Saturday night.

Senior Sergeant Denton Grimes said alcohol was a contributor to most of the incidents.

"We want people to go out and enjoy themselves, but it's about being responsible when it comes to alcohol consumption and being responsible for your behaviour," he said.

"It ties up valuable police time, when there are other incidents and calls for our service."

Mr Grimes said police would continue to complete checks on licensed premises and increase their presence in the CBD this Friday and Saturday nights.

Burglary prevention

Police have concerns about suspicious activity in the Pukehangi area, around the top end of Clayton Rd.

Mr Grimes advised people in the area to hide their valuable items or keep them locked away.
