The Ngongotaha community could be the key to solving a case where an 18-year-old woman was punched in the face after she refused to go drinking with three men that approached her on the street.
Inspector Stuart Nightingale said the woman was walking her dog in a reserve area behind Oakland Pl about 8pm on Monday when she was approached by three men who appeared to have been drinking. They invited her to go drinking with them.
"She refused and started to walk away."
One of the group then made physical contact and threatened to take her cellphone. Comments of a sexual nature were made and when she said no, the woman was punched in the face.
Mr Nightingale described it as an audacious attack and said he was confident the men, and the car, would be known to people in Ngongotaha.
