Others, are just doing what they do all year round.
The worst - because whether you love or hate the election process, there are some who can't help but be nasty at this time.
I'm talking about the lowlifes who go around defacing candidate billboards.
Today we report that council candidate Tania Tapsell has had five of her election signs either damaged or stolen at the weekend - one which went missing within two hours of going up.
The billboards she busily put up have been burnt, cut and vandalised.
Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick has also been a target.
Both women are not taking it too personally and are in good spirits about it.
Mrs Chadwick went as far to say she found it quite entertaining.
The Rotorua District Residents and Ratepayers have had at least one billboard, at Lake Rotoiti, vandalised.
While it is good to make light of the situation and brush it off, it doesn't take away from the fact these people who steal and vandalise are criminals.
The candidates might not be your picks, but they are paying for these billboards themselves.
They are putting their hands up to represent us and if you don't like them, don't whip out a craft knife or a big black pen.
Express how you feel in the coming weeks and vote.
