One person suffered minor injuries after a helicopter "landed heavily" on a field next to Taupo Hospital.

Northern Police Communications shift commander Inspector Kay Lane said the helicopter landed heavily on the field.

She said the two people on board were fine, with one suffering just minor injuries.

The incident happened at 5.25pm.

Ms Lane said she had no details on what sort of helicopter it was.
