Bay of Plenty police want everyone to have a fun festive holiday but will be treating alcohol harm and liquor ban breaches as a priority.
In New Zealand approximately one third of all recorded offences are committed after the offender has consumed alcohol and police want people to remember that there are a number of liquor bans in the district and consuming alcohol in those areas has consequences.
"It's not the drinking; it's how we are drinking," said Prevention Manager, Inspector Steve Bullock.
"Year on year we are dealing with those who take it too far, drink excessively and make very poor decisions. It makes them increasingly vulnerable to becoming a victim of crime or trauma and also increases the risk of them becoming an offender."
Both are potentially life-changing outcomes all for the sake of a few drinks. We won't stand back and just let this happen," he said.
