Blaring stereos, noisy neighbours and booming bass have fuelled bad tempers across the Rotorua district, making up most noise control complaints this summer.
There were a total of 799 noise complaints to Rotorua Lakes Council noise control staff between December 1, 2016 to February 8. The top three noise-makers were stereos, parties and bass.
Boom boxes caused the biggest huffs across the district with stereo systems receiving the most noise complaints, a whopping 392.
Fuming neighbours also growled about parties: 198 complaints. And thumping bass complaints came in at 119.
Council compliance solutions manager Neven Hill said he thinks noise containing very low frequencies, such as music with a lot of bass, tends to annoy locals more than anything.
