Hundreds of people have gathered to watch movies around Lake Tikitapu (the Blue Lake), enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful scenery this evening.
The GLO Movies event is the second part of the GLO Festival to take place over the New Year period after the GLO Spot Live event, which saw busker Katerama Pou take out the competition and secure herself a place in tomorrow night's GLO Party.
Finding Dory and Hunt for the Wilderpeople were played on the big screen, along with two short films directed and produced by locals from Steam BOP Films.
At least 500 people turned out to watch the films, go for a swim, have dinner and enjoy the atmosphere.
Roseanne Harris took her two girls, Kristy, 15, and Sierra, 10, along with her granddaughter Ruby, 4, to enjoy the evening.
"It's just nice for the kids to come and sit outside and watch a movie. It's something different. The little one loves it, she's been down to put her feet in the sand."
She said one of the girls got a bleeding nose when they first arrived but the medic on scene helped her clean it up and they had all settled in.
"It's beautiful, I love it here. It's a good spot because it's raised so we don't have people sitting right in front of us so we can't see.
Rotorua woman Michelle Ferguson went along with her family.
"The atmosphere is beautiful and the scenery is beautiful. We are just relaxed, it's a great way to spend the last couple of days before the New Year," she said.
Local Paul Elder said he thought the event was "really great".
"It couldn't be a better day for it. Everybody here is lovely, it's a really good atmosphere, there's been no issues and everyone is happy," he said.
There will be food available to purchase, but people are also encouraged to bring along their own evening picnic.
