There were 987 more voters registered for the Rotorua general electorate this year but statistics on how many people voted altogether will not be available for a few weeks.
Figures from the Electoral Commission show 44,381 were registered on the general roll in Rotorua to vote on Saturday in this years election. In 2014, 33,880 voted in Rotorua and 9514 enrolled voters decided not to vote.
The largest demographic that had registered for Saturday night's election on the general role was those aged over 70 at 7432 followed by the 55 to 59 age group with 4403.
The lowest was 30 to 34-year-olds with 3054 eligible voters.
Electoral Commission communications and education adviser Clare Pasley said the preliminary results provided the first count of ordinary votes cast during the advance voting period and on election day.
