Rotorua MP and Trade Minister, Todd McClay, leaves for China today for meetings with his counterparts about greater opportunities for New Zealand businesses in their dealings with one of our largest trading partners.
"I will be talking about the importance of tourism as well as discuss opportunities and challenges faced by the Kiwifruit and forestry industries. I will be passing on feedback from the perspective of Rotorua and Bay of Plenty exporters.
"While the China free trade agreement has been extremely successful there are still challenges for some of our industries, particularly around technical barriers to trade.
"I will be joining Prime Minister John Key's trade delegation to Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai which arrives later this week. As a new Trade Minister it is important to have early meetings in Beijing before the Prime Minister's official programme begins," Mr McClay said.
