What better way to spend Father's Day, and the first weekend of spring, than with family, ice cream and sunshine.

Progress Ngongotaha and the Rotorua Ngongotaha Railway Park are holding a family-friendly, farmers' market this Sunday, featuring train rides, food stalls, sausage sizzles, ice cream and dozens of activities for everyone to enjoy.

Children can enjoy rides on the Little Blue train or the park's new trolleys for between $2-$3 per ride.

Progress Ngongotaha's Lynn Benfell said the event was a fantastic opportunity to spend time with the family and enjoy a day out.

"I think it's a wonderful way to spend Father's Day. Families can come along and spend the day celebrating, the children will have plenty to do and the parents can look at the trains to bring about some nostalgic memories," she said.

"It's going to be a really fun day, with something for everyone. We're just praying for good weather."

The event will also feature a variety of raffles and fundraisers, some to put money back into the Ngongotaha community.

She said the railway park was unique to Rotorua and was a must-see attraction.

For those who have never been, this Sunday's event was an opportunity for them to experience it.

The market was also an opportunity to showcase all the wonderful things Ngongotaha had to offer, she said.

"It always surprises me when people say they've never been here before."

The Ngongotaha farmers' market and family day will run from 10am to 3pm.
