Despite schools being on holiday, 28 fewer offences were reported to police in the past week.
Keenan said minor offences traditionally increased in the holidays but the 142 offences reported compared with 170 the previous week.
However, seven more serious crimes, such as stabbings and sexual offences, were reported (45 compared with 38 the previous week).
Keenan said Murupara was now a hot spot for serious crime.
"We had an increase in burglaries from dwellings and other volume crime and as a result we are targeting staff to be in the Glenholme and the CBD areas."
Ram raid
A business in Ngapuna in Rotorua was ram-raided on Thursday night by a white Mazda ute registration SG9134.
Keenan said a sole offender unsuccessfully rammed two roller doors but managed to get into the building through a third roller door.
The offender took boxes of soft drink and alcohol and drove off on Allen Mills Rd.
Stolen vehicles
The following vehicles were stolen in the Rotorua area at the weekend.
2005 blue Holden Commodore registration CSB632 from Waiotapu Loop Rd on Sunday, 2016 blue Yamaha YZF motorcycle registration B7HBW from Spinel Place in Rotorua on Sunday, a 2006 black Honda Edix registration GPP635 stolen from Spencer Rd at Tarawera on Saturday, and a 2007 black Kawasaki EX registration A3GTF stolen from Pererika St on Saturday.
Other crime
Police stopped 234 motorists during the past week. Of those, 201 were for the "fatal five": speeding, not wearing seatbelts, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while distracted and dangerous or careless driving.
And 52 family harm offences, including domestic violence, were reported.
