Tourists struggled in vain to revive a man who died while swimming in Rotorua's popular Kerosene Creek.
The 58-year-old had been in the hot pool south of Rotorua with friends on Saturday night before he was found floating downstream. He was discovered by tourists who attempted to resuscitate him. Friends the man had been swimming with had got out of the pool because it was too hot. Police did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's sudden death but were hoping post mortem examination would shed some light on how the man died, acting Sergeant Courtney Brunt said.
Police would not be releasing the man's name until his family had been notified. Kerosene Creek, near the Waiotapu thermal attraction, is a popular spot with locals and tourists.
