A man has admitted chasing and slapping a 7-year-old boy who'd been throwing stones on a Kaingaroa street.

Andrew Richard Hikaiti, 23, pleaded guilty in the Rotorua District Court on Wednesday to assaulting the boy, who he had no relationship with.

According to the police summary of facts, the boy was throwing stones about 6.20pm on November 18 last year when Hikaiti called out to him.

The boy stopped and ran home, chased by Hikaiti. Hikaiti followed him inside the back door and began slapping the boy on the leg and bottom.

The boy was wetting himself and asked Hikaiti to stop. The child was left with visible hand marks on his body.

Judge James Weir said Hikaiti was on home detention at the time - having been sentenced the previous month for assault. He remanded Hikaiti on bail to reappear for sentencing on March 7.
