A man has pleaded not guilty to four charges of ill-treating children by failing to clean up dog faeces.

He appeared in the Rotorua District Court todayvia audio visual link charged with four counts of being a person who had care of a child under 18 omitted to clean up dog faeces.

The charge reads the omission of failing to clean up dog faeces was likely to cause adverse effects to health, namely sickness, and was a major departure from the standard of care to be expected of a reasonable person.

He pleaded not guilty to the four charges through his lawyer, Andy Schulze.

Judge Tony Snell remanded the man in custody to reappear for a case review hearing on March 21 when he would elect trial by jury or judge alone.
