A Rotorua man has admitted a charge of assaulting his former partner on the same night he threw petrol around their home in front of two children and set the house alight.
Shiva Lachman Anand, 33, appeared in the Rotorua District Court today via audio visual link where a charge of injuring with intent to injure was withdrawn and replaced with a charge of male assaults female.
The charge relates to an incident at on June 7 when Anand and his former partner got into an argument. It ended with Anand assaulting the woman then setting fire to their home.
Anand previously pleaded guilty to a charge of wilfully setting fire to a property endangering life as well as a separate charge of assaulting a man, relating to an incident in Taupo in January.
Judge Tony Couch remanded Anand in custody to reappear in court on August 18 for sentencing.
