A magnitude 4.6 earthquake has been recorded 5km east of White Island.
The GeoNet website says the earthquake struck at 12:26pm and was at a depth of 103 km.
People from Whakatane, Opotiki, Hawke's Bay and Gisborne have registered "felt" reports on the GeoNet website.
