Four people have received only minor injuries after their car crashed down a steep bank near Rotorua, coming to rest only metres from a stream.

A police spokeswoman said police, ambulance and fire services were called to the scene on State Highway 30, near Horohoro, just before midday.

The spokeswoman said the car was a "number of metres down a bank".

All four people in the vehicle were out and checked over by ambulance staff.

A St John spokesman said four patients, all with minor injuries, were treated at the scene and did not require a trip to hospital.

A Rotorua Daily Post photographer at the scene said the car has crashed about 30m down a steep bank and came to rest "very close" to a stream.

Cordons at the intersection of SH30 and Whirinaki Valley Rd and SH30 and Nicholson Rd had been lifted.
