Rotorua's Loop Road is more than just a road - it's one that connects a group of five friends who have named their band after it as well.
The friends - Andrew Phillips (keys), Sam Burgess (lead vocals/guitar), Eric Zang (guitar/vocals), Oliver Eason (drums) and Rowan Herbert (bass) - grew up together and while they had played some music together in the past, it wasn't until about a year ago they realised their love of music could be more than a bit of fun.
They all went off and did their own things, which has, for some, included travelling, living overseas and working in music in various forms, and about a year ago they came back together and had a jam session. From there they formed a band called Loop Road.
"We all grew up together at Tarawera and Okareka," Phillips said. "Loop Road is the thing that joins us all together. It didn't take us long to recognise that we had something quite good."
Phillips said the band was a five-piece which fused many musical genres and couldn't be lumped into one style.
