The generosity of Rotorua people who support the community through the Geyser Community Foundation was recognised at a special function this afternoon
Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick said she was honoured to host the special function, which she hoped would become an annual event.
"I am privileged to have theopportunity to recognise some of the generous people who are supporting our community for the long term through the Geyser Community Foundation." "With their help, Geyser has begun to build a substantial pool of funds, income from which is helping to meet the charitable needs of our community today, and building a legacy for the future."
Geyser returned almost $400,000 to the Rotorua and Taupo district communities on behalf of a growing number of donors last financial year.
"Gifts made through Geyser last forever. Funds are invested and the investment income used to support charities and community groups" Mrs Chadwick said.
"All donations help build permanent funds which in turn support our local community every year, and forever."
Chairman of the Geyser Community Foundation, Pat Brown said trustees appreciated the mayor's support.
"Geyser's main aim is to encourage charitable giving. We provide a simple and effective way for individuals, families, businesses and other generous people to support the communities and causes that are important to them. The generous people being recognised today chose to support the local community for the long term through the Foundation.
"A number of Geyser's other donors wish to retain their anonymity, which we respect. We applaud all donors' generosity, especially in the early stages of our development. They are and will remain valued members of Geyser's family of donors helping to create sustainable change forever."
