Dozens of football fans, dressed in red, black and yellow, packed into Rotorua's Hennessy's Irish Bar this morning to watch the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The atmosphere was filled with suspense during the prolonged game between Argentina and Germany.

Screams, cheers and tears erupted when Germany scored the only goal of the match, in extra time.

Those wearing blue and white suddenly went silent.

One fan from Germany, Jenny Ebersold, who was visiting Rotorua with her friend, said she was thrilled Germany won the game.

"I can't believe it. It's an amazing result, we won, we won," she said while jumping up and down.

She said she was going to celebrate for the rest of the day and "let her hair down".
