The Central Lakes branch of Parent to Parent is to receive $5000 from BayTrust.
The organisation works to support Rotorua, Taupo and Turangi families who have loved ones with health needs or disabilities.
The new grant would help cover the operational costs of the branch which works with 516 local families.
Parent to Parent regional co-ordinator Breanna Turner said the money was vital to ensure parents had access to the information and support they needed.
"Parent to Parent is about opening doors to show families that their lives can still be great and full of hope - just different," she said.
"This money is huge. It allows me to keep doing what I need to do - keeping up with the latest changes in the medical and disability sector, and getting out there to train and support parents.
"Without being able to pay for things like power, phone, mileage, photocopying, postage and the costs involved in running workshops and support groups, we just wouldn't exist."
Parent to Parent is a nationwide non-profit organisation that has been operating in Central Lakes since 2005.
It provides wraparound support for families when children are diagnosed with a medical condition or disability and free information on more than 3600 medical conditions.
The organisation also trains "support parents" to help other local families whose child has the same condition or disability as their own.
It organised support groups and camps for siblings to acknowledge the extra effort their home life demanded and Renew workshops for parents.
"The feedback we get is incredible - parents come away buzzing with the mindset that they really can get through tough times, think big, have hope and create meaningful everyday lives for everyone in the family," Mrs Turner said.
BayTrust chief executive Alastair Rhodes said strengthening whanau was a key funding priority to help achieve BayTrust's vision of making "the Bay of Plenty the greatest place to be".
"BayTrust recognises the importance of family and whanau as the basic unit in communities - when the family unit is strong, it follows that our communities will be healthy and strong," he said.
"Parent to Parent does a fantastic job of helping people cope with unexpected news and adjust to their new parenting journey. We're very keen to see their good work continue, and we're pleased to offer this financial support along the way."
