"I know first-hand how difficult it is for children to learn when their tummies are empty or their basic needs are not met.
"KidsCan supports thousands of children from low decile schools throughout the country, providing food, shoes, socks, raincoats and basic hygiene items, helping these students into a better position to learn."
Jennifer says Drama Kids has about 40 students aged 5 to 19 years performing various scenes and monologues for the showcase.
These will include performances from its three 2017 Civic Arts Scholarship winners and its very own 2018 SGCNZ Young Shakespeare Company entrant performing his winning Shakespeare monologue.
There will also be a special performance from Shrek the Musical Junior, starring three students who were involved in the show this year.
Jennifer says some of the pieces have been devised and written by the students themselves around various themes.
Some pieces the students have been rehearsing since the beginning of the year and others they have had for a shorter amount of time.
"It takes a lot of preparation to improvise, devise, memorise, block and rehearse each scene, but the students have loads of fun doing it and it is nice to have this opportunity for them to perform to the community after all of that hard work, and to give something back with their performances.
"We have a lot of amazing young talent in Rotorua and it is so important to me as a drama teacher that my students are able to perform for a public audience, not just at competitions and exams, but for the pure love of performing and entertaining.
"Even better than that, being able to share their talents in a bid to raise money for a good cause - now that is always worth getting behind!"
Tickets are $5 at the door, with cash sales only.
The show will run for about 90 minutes, plus an interval.
There will also be tea, coffee, juice and home-baked goodies for sale during the interval for a gold coin.
