Rotorua's Sandra du Plat-Pearce was thrilled to receive a birthday message from her former neighbour, Queen Elizabeth II.
It was among birthday cards from other notables, including Prime Minister John Key, and ministers Maggie Barry and Peter Dunne, all wishing her well for her 105th birthday.
"I am absolutely bewildered, I am so happy," she said.
The Gardens Rest Home and Hospital resident turns 105 on Monday, but said she did not want a fuss made of her.
She will be treated to dance and song from former students from the Du Plat School of Dance where she taught ballet for more than 20 years.
